Second draft of trailer - created on movie maker

This is the second draft of our edited trailer, we used movie maker to shorter clips and put them in the order in which we wanted to show them. This is how we have progressed in making our trailer, I feel that it is much better than our first draft through the use of costume, make up and locations, I feel that our final footage is much more scary and dramatic that the first draft. As this is only the second draft we have not yet added effects or sound to it but we plan to use a soundtrack and a voice over in the final trailer.
In the first scene we see the mental home patient walking down the hallway this clip is silent but we plan to add an opening line which we have discussed to be explaining what has happened to Scarlet. In this clip the way she walks is haunting and unusual highlighting the characters nature and suggesting that she herself is not normal, I feel that the scene is an effective opening scene, however as she is walking slowly the scene itself is quite long
making it last very long and as a viewer this may make them bored, so I think that making this clip shorter would be a good idea, also at the very beginning we had not noticed but you can hear my voice saying 'go' to begin the scene so this must also be removed.
The second clip shows scarlet sitting alone in a room this clip last for 4 seconds which we feel is much too long as the viewers will lose interest, we plan to change this clip to last around 1-2 seconds to ensure that our trailer does not run too long. The next clip is is black and white (we added the negative effect on movie maker by changing the brightness, contrast and exposure). it shows one of Scarlets flashbacks of a memory of her and her sister playing on the swings as children I think that this scene is effective because it looks very realistic - the flashback is shown in black and white to differentiate past and present, I like that the scene was filmed in the park as it has significance to the rest of the trailer as it is where Scarlets sister was murdered.
In the next clip we see Scarlet rocking back and forth in her cell, this was filmed from a high angle so it looks like a high angle surveillance camera which makes it look more realistic as it looks like a prison cell, the clip shows her reaction to the flashbacks she has while she is sitting alone. After looking back on this clip we have decided to make this clip shorter too as we only want the longer scenes to show the scarier more dramatic footage. After this clip we see another flashback which shows Scarlet and her sister chasing each other in a field of flowers, this is to show the children's innocence and it shows the viewer Scarlets memories this is also shown in black and white to make it look old and authentic.
The screen is dark when Scarlet is having a nightmare as it was shot in the dark, the scene looks fussy purposely and was done in most of the scenes showing Scarlets innocent side.
After this we see the empty chair, showing that Scarlet has left, from looking at this draft I have noticed that this clip is much too long - nothing actually happens in this clip so it does not need to be as long as it is, also the next scene is also much too long it shows Scarlet running into her old home and tidying up before noticing a mirror and then seeing her sisters reflection, I feel that this scene is still quite slow and needs to be cut. After this scene we see scarlet running and ripping down posters, this scene should be cut at the start as the trailer itself runs quite slow and does get boring, also I have noticed that when the ripped poster is shown to viewers the camera gets quite shaky so this needs to be resolved.
Next we see Scarlet's evil persona walking across the bridge - I think scene was extremely effective as Scarlet come right up to the screen with her face covered leaving the viewers unsuspecting - I like the flow of the last few scenes as I think that it is much more scary than the footage of Scarlets innocent persona, after this clip we see the murder scene, this is also show as Scarlets nightmare, but now the viewers see the face of the murderer and realise that it is in fact Scarlet. I think the final scene creates the most tension, the use of the pan is very effective as the landscape looks peaceful until Scarlet pops up and surprises the viewers I think that this scene is very effective and would make the viewers jump, I like this scene as it will leave the viewers feel intrigued and scared.
The trailer does not yet have sound so when we add the audio it will be much more gripping and effective. We also plan to edit the trailer more in the media suite to create our final product.

So far we have found that the trailer has ran very long, and at some points it can appear slow which may bore the viewer, so we have decided to cut some clips even shorter so that the trailer does not run past one minute and thirty seconds, we have decided that some clips are much longer that they need to be and we have not yet added into this second draft two scenes, which would make the trailer even longer, this two final scenes will be filmed in the next week and we will then have all of our final footage filmed. So far I am pleased with the footage that we have filmed - especially the very last scene as we feel that it gave the trailer the scary impact that it needed and it would make the viewers jump. Now we will begin to add sounds and effects to our trailer such as transitions, voice overs and we will also have children singing in the background which we feel will give the trailer an eerie vibe making it stick in the viewers mind.

Editing in the media suite - final cut

Once we had finished cutting the clips on movie maker we the loaded the clip onto final cut, at first we found final cut quite challenging, but after a while we were able to get used to the software. We decided that the trailer was still far to long so we had to cut more clips even shorter, this took quite a long time to do as we wanted the clips to flow efficiently, once we had done this we saved the trailer onto final cut and we will now begin to add transitions, effects, sound and text to our trailer.
We will now need to think of transitions that we could add to make our trailer look more professional, we looked at possible transitions such as fade to white and fade to black which we thought would be suited to the trailer when we introduce the title or production company. It took us a while to get used to the software and in the next lesson we could not access final cut, so we began to use Adobe Premier Pro instead, we found that this was very similar to final cut and began to edit the trailer by cutting the clips shorter and looking at different transitions.

Filming

Today we decided to film our final scene (we still have 2 more scenes to film, but these are of the mental home patient and we had decided that it would take far too much time to do the villains hair and make up as well as the mental home patients). The film that we had to film was the final scene that would be shown at the end of the trailer, this would be our most interesting shot of the villain coming right up to the camera, we decided that as we wanted to use a range of different shots in the trailer we would use a pan shot showing an empty field where the villain (played by actress Shona) would jump up at the camera and scream into the lens. To do this scene we needed Shona to crouch down in front of the camera and then pop up - as if out of nowhere when instructed to, the pan was quite simple to do, but we needed to do it a few times as sometimes the camera would move to fast and we wanted it to spin around slowly, however we got the shot we wanted after just five takes once we worked out how fast the pan should be, as Shona knew exactly what we wanted the scene to be like she was able to portray the characters anger and madness perfectly for the final scene by letting out a sharp, pained scream directly into the camera.

Looking at Individual Posters

For our poster again we have decided to print off a copy of all of our final products and choosing what we liked best on each members poster.
In our research we found that alot of people like the poster to be strong and eye catching as it plays a strong part in whether or not they go to see the film, so we knew that our poster had to be eye catching and effective.
Below are each members of my group's final poster promoting our trailer:

Shona's final poster
This is a photo of Shona's final poster - I like the image that she has chosen to use as the angle is very clever - the upside down photograph is very intriguing and unusual as it is a twist on classic images used for posters. The image is bold and I like the ghostly paleness of her skin as it makes her look more striking and visually appealing. I like the colours used also make the poster look effective as the purple, black and white adds a ghostly mysterious vibe to the poster. The dark colours add to the posters strong impact and it promotes the genre of the film well, shona has used an unusual black liquid effect in one of the eyes which makes the image look more strange and intriguing, I like the dark sinister image as it is eye catching and strong. Shona has used a structured billing block which gives the poster a professional style and her title is written in very large wobbly font which adds to the posters unusual originality which promotes the film very well.

Amys final poster
This is Amy's final poster I like the darkness that Amy has used by changing the brightness and contrast of the image to make the face appear much darker, this makes the poster look quite mysterious as we cannot see the face clearly so it makes the viewer curious. What I find the most striking about the poster is the title; Amy has used effects to make the title have a glowing effect making it bold, eye catching and one of the posters main focuses. Also Amy has put the names of the directors (members of the team) above the title which I think was a good idea as it highlights the importance of the directors making the poster visually appealing as well as informative. Amy's poster has an eerie ghost like vibe to it making a viewer curious and giving them a feel for what the film is about.

My final poster
This is my completed poster, I chose to stick with the idea of creating a half and half poster showing both of the characters personalities, as I felt this would give the viewers a hint to what the film is about. I selected half of the image and changed the way it looked through image adjustments - I made one side black and white and used a film grain effect to make the side with the villain look like an image that would be seen of an old fashioned newspaper, the other side I made much brighter so the two halves would contrast with one another. I used effects on the text so that the title would look like a fuzzy TV screen and I chose to write the tag line in a writing style font so it would look scrawled and realistic. I made my billing block large and chose to use black and white so that the colours would stand out against one another as I feel that it is important for all text to be seen.

After discussing as a group what we liked best about every ones poster we chose what what parts of each members posters we wanted to use for our final product. In the end we chose to use my main image as we thought that it portrayed the film well and would leave viewers curious and encouraged to see the film. We chose to use Amy's title as it was the most bold and eye catching, we liked the glowing effect that she had used as the effect stands out and gives off an eerie ghost like vibe which would represent the genre of the film well, we also thought that her title looked the most authentic and professional. We also decided to use my billing block but we are going to change the structure of it to make it look more professional, we liked the billing block as we liked how the black and white contrasted with one another and we think that as it has the most text written in it, it looks more authentic. We have decided to use Shona's idea of having a quote from a magazine or newspaper as it would make the poster look professional, and it would give the readers a feel for film.
We have decided to think of a new tag line as we want our tag line to be strong and thought provoking, so we have decided to think of a new tag line as a group.

Creating the final magazine and poster

As we have decided to create a group magazine and poster by voting what we liked best about each members individual posters we have now started to create our final magazine front cover. Above are all three magazine, on my previous post I had listed what we will be using from each members final cover. We will now merge our magazines together to create the final product, on Thursday 17th November we started to create our final product. Below is the progress that we have made on creating our final cover as a group:

This is the first attempt we had created on our cover, we first used my final image and made it larger on photo shop, this is so we had more of a close up image showing the face up close as we felt that this much more scary and striking.
We used the main font 'Eras Demi Light' as we liked how it looked on Amy's final cover, as it had a nice shape and style to it and also the font was round and bold so looking at all of the final products we felt that Amy's font stood out the most and was the clearest to read. We also used Amy's idea of writing the title of the film in black and white as alot of the image is quite dark we needed something that would really stand out against the page, also the black and the white would stick to the main colour scheme of the cover. This is our first attempt at creating the magazine together, we now plan to change the colours and add final touches.

This is the second copy of the magazine, we have made quite a few changes, we decided to change the colours of the masthead to black and white so that it would link with the title of the film - they would be inverted colours, this would make the magazine look much more organized. Also the change of the colours in the masthead made it look more more bold and readable; the masthead should be one of the main focuses, visibly, on the magazine cover. We have also changed the colours to purple as we feel that it would be suited to the horror theme and it matches the cover models make up, we have added a bar code, which we chose to make horizontal as it would look less bulky and take up much less room, we added the price and date in small white font just above the bar code creating a much more organised look, we chose to have the price of the magazine at £2.50 as this is a good, fair and affordable price, also most film magazines are priced at around £3.00-£3.50, so we did not want to make the price too much or too less over this average price. The issue number has been placed just under the title as we feel that it is important that the readers are able to see what issue number the magazine is, however we did not put in in a particularly large font as it is not the most important thing that would be featured on the cover.

On Monday 21st of November we compleated the cover fully to create our final magazine cover, below is our final finished product:
I am very pleased with the final product as I think that it looks authentic and promotes our film well.
For the poster we used the main font of Eras Demi Light, in red as the font was bold with a rounded shape which made it look quite simple and to too over the top, we chose to have this font as the main font for the text that gave details of the content of the magazine to make it look organised and so that the text would be linked, we chose to use a size 16 font as we needed to make it stand out and bold enough for the readers to see as it is important that they are able to see what the magazine is about. We used the font garamond for the title of the film ' Who am I' as we wanted to be creative with font style and we did not want all of the font to be the same as this would have made the cover look quite boring, and we want it to be visually appealing to readers, this font was very strong and sharp so would make the title of our film really stand out.The colours that we have used compliment one another making the magazine look structured and organzed as well as eye catching, the black and the white contast with each other making the text look stricking and bold and the red adds a splash of color to make the text stand out more because of its brightness, it also hints to the reader what this issue will focus on. Red is symobic of blood, danger and gore so hopefully the viewers could assume that the issue focuses on the horror genre. Overall the colours go well with one another and make the text easy to read and eye catching.
By changing the image from a mid shot to a close up we were able to give the magazine a much more serious and scary vibe, the image is very eye catching as her eyes stare straight at the viewer and her expression looks curious and vacant, the image draws in a viewer as it is unusual and dramatic, which I think gives the image a stronger impact and would draw in potential buyers.

Minute meetings - discussing final magazine and poster

For our promotional package we need to create a magazine and a poster promoting the film, at first we were going to all create a separate poster and magazine and then chose the best one, however we chose not to do this and instead chose the things that we liked best out of each members own poster and magazine cover and merge them together to create the final product, yesterday we printed all of our separate magazine covers and posters to chose which bits of the different covers/ posters we will use to create the final product. We voted whose masthead/text/image we liked best and wrote them down, below is a picture of everyone's final product:

Amy's final product

This is a picture of the final product that Amy had produced, I really liked this cover as it was very bold and creative I really liked the colour scheme that Amy had chosen to use which was white, black, purple and red, her colour scheme made the magazines text stand out so that it did not fade into the background and readers were able to clearly see it, I liked the text 'Who am I' as the contrasting colours black and white made the text look incredibly striking. Amy's image was my favourite out of the three as it was scary in a realistic way the angle of the face is quite surreal making the character seem quite deranged, and in this image shona's hair covers have of her face give the image an element of mystery, also the make up looks very dark and bold making it look extremely eye catching. I think that the image would really grab the readers attention and it promotes the genre of the film very well as the image itself is scary, intriguing and mysterious. Amy has added a puff on the bottom of the cover which I thought made it look very authentic and was very original, I think the contrasting colours black and white make it very bold and relates to Amy's chosen colour scheme. The masthead was my favourite part of her magazine as it is very authentic looking - I like the thin font as it is very unique and it reminds me of old fashioned film magazine such as 'Hollywood studio' adding to its authentic look, I also like the bold colours that she has used as it make the masthead really stand out against the page, and the drop shadow that she has used as made it even more eye catching.

Shona's final product

This is Shona's final magazine cover, she chose to use a close up image which I thought was very effective as it creates a strong impact on the reader, like the empire cover promoting the dark knight, where we see a close up of the jokers face. I think the use of a close up adds to the serious scary impact that the cover, and the image is extremely strong and effective. Shona has chosen to use the colour scheme purple, green and white, the font stands out against the page and is very visible as it is important for readers to be able to read what the cover says about the content. The masthead is large and dominant and is also a main focus, she has used purple and had outlined it in grey making it bold and giving it a cartoon like style. I think the magazine cover is bold and eye catching and I do think the use of a close up has proved incredibly effective.

My final magazine cover
This is a copy of my final magazine cover I have used the main colour scheme of red, white, black and purple. I chose to use red as it gave the viewers a feel for what the isuue is about - my magazine's issue focuses on horror as it was promoting a horror film, so the text on my cover reads 'Horror Film Special'. I chose the red font as it insinuates blood, danger and gore - realting to the issues content and the film. I found that some of my text was too dark, I used dark colours to give my magazine a serios but mysterious vibe, I like the text on my cover but Shona felt that my cover looked far too busy as there was too much text and did not like my chosen colour scheme as there were too many colours - I disagree as I feel that the readers should know about the content of the magazine as what they see on the cover can determine whether or not the purchase the magazine, however in our final cover we had voted to only use a small amount of text about the content on the cover. I am happy with my cover as I like the brightness of my image and I feel that it promotes the film and the genre of horror quite well as does Amy's and s because the colour scheme promotes the fims well as does all of the chosen images.

For the magazines we have chosen to use Amy's masthead, as we liked the style and font that she had used, I thought that this masthead was the best as it had an old style to it which reminded me of the more old fashioned film magazines such as 'Hollywood studio' (below) and 'Premiere' (also below) I like this simple old fashioned look and I think that Amy's masthead captures this look very well, this style of masthead is not very common, so it looks very eye catching as it gives the magazine it own unique style, the masthead should be a main focus as it is a crucial part of the magazines image as the viewers will need to know what the magazine is called , especially if they want to buy it again so to have an original eye catching masthead was very important to us, reflecting our decision on choosing the masthead designed by Amy.
Premier magazine cover - it shows an old
authentic looking masthead.
Next we had to choose the main image, although all of them were good we took the decision to use the main image on my magazine cover, this was because it was bold and bright as I had changed the images hue/ saturation making the colours appear more rich, also my image was the most eye catching because of the colour, however we all liked the idea of using a close up as I feel that they are extremely effective in catching the attention of potential readers as I have observed when researching different film magazines. With this in mind we have decided to crop my image and zoom in on the face creating a more close up image, which will make it look much more dramatic.
Hollywood studio magazine- shows
an old fashioned masthead also.
We have decided to use Amy's colour scheme as I think it was the best in making the font look visible and east to read whilst making the magazine look authentic, I think that Amy's colour scheme also reflects the genre well - the white giving the cover a ghostly feel and the black contrasting with it making it look mysterious, effective and bold. We have also decided to use the content detail that I have displayed on my cover, this is because we all liked the idea of the issue being dedicated to the genre of horror and we felt that the content detail that I have written was the best suited to the genre of the film that we want to promote.
Also as we want our magazine to look unique we have decided to use Amy's bar code as it is vertical and it takes up less room, looks less bulky and will look quite different to some magazines.
We have decided to use Shonas idea of writing the title 'who am I' with the word 'WHO' and 'I' in capitals and the word 'am' in lowercase as we liked how this looked on the page.
We will now work on our final copy by merging what we liked on everyone's covers.

List of camera shots

For our trailer we are hoping to use a variety of different shots to create a strong visual appearance for our trailer, below is a list that I have devised of different shots that we will use.
-The first scene - showing scarlet walking into the mental home, this will be a long shot so that we are able to see the whole of Scarlet.

- When Scarlet sits in her cell alone - Long Shot
- Flashback of Scarlet and her sister on the swings - Two Shot
- Scarlet sitting on the floor rocking anxiously back and forth - High Angle Shot
- Flashback of both sisters playing with one another - Pan/ Establishing Shot
- Scarlet sitting on the floor crying - High Angle Shot
- Scarlet having a nightmare - High angle shot
- Empty chair, showing scarlet has escaped - Long Shot
- Scarlet runs to the abandoned house - Establishing shot
- Scarlet looking in the mirror - Over the shoulder shot
-Ghost appearing/ Scarlet turning around - Mid shot

So far we have only determined the shots of the scenes that we have already filmed as we may change our mind for new scenes while filming.

New Scenes
Now that we have filmed the remaining scenes the shots have now been established:
- Scarlet getting her photo taken - Mid Shot
- Scarlet walking across the bridge - Long shot
- Murder Scene - Two Shot
- Scarlet ripping down posters - Long shot (Camera will then zoom on the poster)
- Final scene when Scarlet screams - Pan

Editing in the media suite

Today we my group and I went to the media suite to edit the footage on i movie for our final trailer - it was the first time that we were together as a group since filming the footage featuring the mental home patient so there was alot that we needed to discuss, first of all we watched the whole trailer (minus the three scenes yet to be filmed). We knew that we needed to add effects to the trailer but we wanted to do this when all of the filming was complete, after watching the trailer back we realised that it was far too long and it was very slow - we plan for the trailer to start off slow and get more fast paced as it goes on as this has been done in alot of successful horror trailers that I have analysed such as ' A Nightmare On Elm Street', 'The Ring' and 'The Grude' which I found was extremely effective and created tension and anticipation for the viewers.
We discussed where the scene that we had not yet filmed were to be placed and shortened some clips, we know that the timing of the trailer may be a problem for us, as we feel that our trailer may be much too long.

Magazine drafts

As part of the promotional package I will need to create a magazine cover promoting the film. As I have been unsure of what image I would like to use for my magazine I decided to manipulate the images that I was considering to use, all of them in the same way (using the spot healing brush to remove imperfections and to give the image a more professional finish, using the dodge tool - which makes the skin look whiter, this gives the character on the cover more pale ghost like skin to make her seem more frightening and to make her look more dramatic) I have also added the text for my magazine onto each manipulated image to see what the image and the text would look like together as a final product.
This is my first attempt,I chose to use this image as it was very dramatic and scary, I really liked the angle of the face as her face looked much longer and her eyes were more visible as the angle of the face made her chin look much thinner; giving her face a more barrow look and her eyes look much larger making the make up more visible. The manipulation of this image does not look very professional as I found that I had over used the dodge tool making the brush marks very visible, also this makes the skin look far too patchy making it look very unprofessional - it also has allowed me to see how visible the text would be against the image.
This is the second copy of my magazine, initially this was my chosen magazine image as I thought it was bold, striking and looked very authentic, however I had my doubts on how the image would look when text was applied to it, as I knew that the image may be blocked by the masthead, However I chose to continue manipulating the image to see would it would look like with the text.
I manipulated the image by using the spot healing brush to remove imperfections - again I used the dodge tool to create a pale ghostly look as I felt this would be suited to the character. I also used the burn tool to make her hair look slightly darker as I thought this would look effective as it would contrast with her ghostly pale skin. This image is overpowered by the
text as it bright and bold but the image seems quite dull so it seems that the text draws the attention much more. Also I can see now that the masthead has covered alot of the image, this is disappointing as I did really like the image alone but I will look at others now and have decided not to use this one.

This is my third cover for my magazine, looking at the finished product I feel that this one is not a strong as my others. The shape of the face in this photo looks very unusual, again in this image the brush marks from using the dodge tool  are far too visible and the white on the skin, this time does not look very realistic, however I do like the image and I think that the text looks very bold and looks well suited to the image. I used the burn tool to make Shona's hair darker to giver her a more mysterious ghost like look.

This is the text for my magazine, I chose to use this masthead as the red would be symbolic of blood and gore - although the magazine is not genre specific to horror this issue would be the horror film special so using red would relate to the gory horror themed issue. Also although it is quite difficult to see I have written the word 'the' for the title just above the 'F' for film on the masthead, this was inspired a masthead that I saw for Total Film (below) who has the word 'Total' written inside the 'F' of film, I thought that this was very creative as it made the masthead unique and eye catching so I wanted to make my own masthead different - on photo shop I used the blending options to create the effects on the text - I used an inner glow creating a glittered effect and an outer glow to create a white bordered shadow to make my masthead stand out more, the 'THE' on top of the 'F' has effects on the text also I used a black outer Shadow with a high level of noise (89%) to create a misty effect - however I found that when adding the text to my images the 'THE' of the masthead was not very visible because of its dark outershaddow. In this image I have added some text describing to readers what the issue will feature - I stuck to the main colours of re
d, white, black and purple - I wanted the colours to be dark and have insinuations of gore to relate to the magazine's horror film special. Below is my final text layout, I wanted the colours to be kept dark to give the cover a serious edge and so that it would relate to the genre of film that it is promoting. The content that I have written about on the cover is all related to the horror genre I have used the blending options on most of the text to create an outer glow to make the font stand out against the page.

This is my final magazine cover, I think that this looks the most effective as this time I have made the image look bolder and brighter making the image much more striking. For this image I changed the hue/saturation to a higher level to make the colours look more rich and vibrant. I used the dodge tool to make Shona's skin look paler but this time I used the tool very carefully to avoid brush marks, I used the burn tool lightly to make Shona's hair slightly darker - but not fully back as I found that by doing this

Locations

This was the 'set' used to film the mental home patient returning to her old home. We filmed most of the scenes featuring the mental home patient at St Orburgs Church hall, we chose to use the hall because it was a large empty available space with a stage; this gave us alot to work with. We like how plain the hall was as it was suitable to use for Scarlet's cell, as we needed a blank white room. To create the empty cell we just moved the church
benches to make the stage empty. To create the scene in the old house we tried our best to make it look like a home, we used a table some old chairs and we wanted the 'house' to look old and run down so we put some sheets over the church benches, we tried to make the room look as messy as possible as we needed to make the house look abandoned and 'untouched'. We learnt the mirror on a bench, as it was significant to the scene that we wanted to film and the mirror holds a key memory from scarlets past.

For our film trailer we have had to look at the best locations of where to film, we had discussed possible placed since the summer and we had all came to an agreement that we wanted to film our trailer outside of school. For our photo shoot we wanted something that would give a strong visual aspect to the magazine and poster, so we opted for somewhere quite picturesque - we liked the eeriness of Coundon wedge so we chose to take some photos there, later in the day we went to ausley park and we really liked the field of flowers, from this we decided that we wanted to film the flashbacks of Scarlet's (our main character) childhood in the field as the flowers were very visually appealing and in way they symbolised the innocence of the characters memories. We decided to use this scene for one of the two flashbacks as it shows the sisters chasing each other - for this we wanted to use a field and thought the flowers created an effective look to the scene.

We chose to use this location to film Scarlets evil alter ego, we had came past this bridge on our way to the fields and really liked how it looked - the perspective of the bridge makes it look extremely long and almost never ending, we used this bridge as it would show the murderer travelling to go and kill the younger sister, initially we were going to use an isolated alleyway for this scene, however the isolated bridge would be much more dramatic - the trees that framed the bridge created a scary eerie effect and also gave the impression that the villain was in the woods, also as we shot the scenes in the afternoon we really likes the leaf pattern shadows that were created on the bridge. This location was chosen again for the visual aspect - we were thinking of what would look better and more appealing to a viewer watching the trailer and both the bridge and the wood would relate well to the horror film genre.

This is where we decided to film the scene of the murder and one of the flashbacks, we wanted to find somewhere that could relate to a childhood memory, we chose the park as it is typically where children go to play and the swing mould make the characters seem childlike and innocent, which is exactly what we wanted to portray. At the park we had a choice to use a set of five swings or a set of two, we decided to use the the set of two as it looked more old fashioned and we didn't want the scene or the shot to be distracted by other obstacles, and by having just two swings the viewer could just focus on the two girls on the set of two swings. We wanted to have a place where we could show the girl being murdered and we thought that by having just two swings during the murder scene one of the swings would be empty so the viewers would know that something is wrong.
This final image is of a corridor that we had came across in Nottingham, this was the first place that we had chose to film Scarlet entering the home as we really liked this open corridor, and even filmed mock clips of actress, Shona, walking down the corridor, although we liked the space and the look of the corridor as it had an eerie hospital vibe and the colours white and red really looked good together, the colours hear could have been symbolic - the white would represent Scarlets innocence and the red would signify blood and danger, which would have been perfect to foreshadow a visual message to viewers. However we found that there were two problems with this space - one being that it was quite busy and there would always be people walking past and the location was not ideal - to get the space empty we would have had to have got to Nottingham to film very early and also Nottingham was very far away for all of the team members, because of this we decided to compromise and use St Orburgs Church Hall instead.

First Draft

Practise Trailer 1st attempt from Kiran Unes on Vimeo.

This is the first draft of our film trailer - we decided to film our trailer in the mound at school as we wanted to experiment with different shots and angles and we were practising using the camera. For our first draft we did not put as much of an emphasis on both of the split personalities through the use of costume and make up like we plan to.
Our first draft shows Shona (playing main character Scarlet) in 'the woods' acting happy and childlike and then breaking down into tears at the end if the trailer we see Scarlet becoming violent and aggressive she lunges towards the camera and knocks it over.
The camera in our first draft was hand held and shaky, this was done to make the footage look realistic and to make it seem that Scarlet was being followed by the viewer, we felt that the use of a hand held camera would create a scary sense of reality for the viewer. The end is the most effective part of our draft as Shona approaches the camera and screams, which I think is very scary and effective. We used a film grain effect on the footage and changed it to black and white by changing the brightness, contrast and saturation we also made the footage appear in slow motion to make it look like an old video tape.
